Lakeisha (Keisha) Burton
Advocate and Mentor
Lakeisha (Keisha) Burton was the first youth offender in California to be sentenced as an adult when she was just 14 years old. She served much of her sentence in isolation, allegedly for her own safety. She was finally released from prison when she was in her 30s. Today she is a fulltime administrator and also works as a volunteer mentor for youth. She has a six-year-old daughter. Ever since her release, Keisha has been a powerful advocate for youth impacted by the Pain of the Prison System.
